Vaghe stelle dell'Orsa (Sandra) (1965) - Luchino Visconti

Psychodrama, Italien 1964, Regie: Luchino Visconti, Buch: Luchino Visconti, Suso Cecchi d'Amico und Enrico Medioli, Kamera: Armando Nannuzzi, Musik: César Franck, Produzent: Franco Cristaldi. Mit: Claudia Cardinale, Michael Craig, Jean Sorel, Marie Bell, Renzo Ricci, Fred Williams.

Heute hab' ich keine Lust! Claudia Cardinale¿T?

RIP+UP | XviD-742 | mp3@128 | 624x256 | French (Italian & Polish subs in file) | DVD Cover & Sticker | 1h51 | 700 Mb

France Italie 27 Nov 2002
Réalisation par Renzo MARTINELLI

Avec/Cast Michel SERRAULT, Daniel AUTEUIL, Laura MORANTE, Philippe LEROY-BEAULIEU ...

On October 9th, 1963, at 10:39 pm, 260 million cubic meters of rock fell down from Mount Toc to the artificial lake formed by the Vajont dam, the higher dam in the world. The landslide formed a 250-meters wave and 50 million cubic meters of water completely destroied all the below towns, killing more than 2000 people. Planned by engineer Semenza, Vajont dam (263 meters) had to carry the electricity in all the houses of the country. Tina Merlin, a journalist from "L'Unitá", tried for years to denounce the danger to build a dam near the Mount Toc and expecially to denounce all the omissions by the corrupted politicians and workers in charge of the dam construction. They preferred to trust in old geologist Dal Piaz instead to hear engineer Semenza young son's alarming analysis. No one seemed to understand the high danger until that October fatal night.

Federico Fellini`s Autobiography (2000) - Paquito Del Bosco

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0262414/

"This is a documentary made for Italian television by Paquito del Bosco. It is featured on the second disc of La Strada, Criterion Collection. In these 55 minutes, the viewer is supplied with a number of archive footage, pictures as well as interviews with Fellini himself. After his early Oscar winning productions in 1956 (LA STRADA) and 1957 (LE NOTTI DI CABIRIA), Fellini became a known Italian director who neither represented the new movements that appeared in post war Italy nor the traditional approach but delivered something out of his own creative vision of cinema. When did this approach reach its climax? Difficult to say but certainly, these "Felliniesque view" was most noticeable in his 1960s productions. And the documentary deals with them: LA DOLCE VITA (1960), OTTO E MEZZO (1963), GIULIETTA DEGLI SPIRITI (1965), FELLINI SATYRICON (1969). Although they are too "peculiar" for some people, these movies resemble Fellini's imagination blended with reality most convincingly. In the documentary, you will see the true "wings" of how and why these films were made. Fellini, in details sometimes, comments on their idea as cinematic works. We see him, for instance, at Fontanna Di Trevi in Rome where he is filming the famous scene with Anita Ekberg. In another moment, he talks about his childhood memories of Rimini that accompanied him when filming AMARCORD (1972). Therefore, it's a very interesting look at Fellini himself, at his "specific controversial genius" which you surely don't have to agree with but which you should respect if you are a movie fan."

Rappresaglia (Massacre in Rome ) (1973) - George P. Cosmatos

Description: In the Nazi occupied city of Rome, an assault on an SS brigade draws retaliation from the military governship. "Massacre in Rome" is the true story of how this partisan attack led to the mass execution of Italian nationals under the orders of SS-Lieutenant Colonel Kappler.
***********
The late director George P. Cosmatos had an interesting career in Hollywood. While his films were always slick affairs, full of rich atmosphere and well directed action, they weren’t critically acclaimed. Films like Rambo: First Blood Part II, Cobra, and Leviathan did fairly well at the box-office and achieved notable legions of well-meaning fans, but Cosmatos’ real skills were evidenced long before these big-budget pec-flexers.

Cosmatos began his career as an assistant director, cutting his teeth on classic pictures like Exodus, Zobra the Greek, and The Day the Fish Came Out. His first film was 1970’s interesting, thought hardly stirring, The Beloved (released in the UK as Restless). Massacre in Rome was his second feature film and one that combines his earlier, moodier work with an action-film sensibility.

The massacre of the title took place towards the end of the Nazi’s occupation of Rome. In March of 1944, a citizens group calling itself the Roman Underground planted a bomb on a roadside by which Nazi soldiers march daily. The bomb went off, 33 German soldiers were killed, and the Nazis vowed revenge. How? They killed 10 Italian men for every German soldier murdered.

SS Lieutenant Col. Kappler (Richard Burton), an art-loving sadist, gives the orders and Father Pietro Antonelli (Marcello Mastroianni) is a priest from the Vatican who is ordered to collaborate with Kappler. Father Antonelli, a pacifist, can either stand by and watch as the Germans slaughter 330 Italian men or defy the Pope and intervene.

One of this picture’s biggest draws is its formidable cast. Richard Burton, sadly best remembered for his debauched and drunken adventures outside of film, was one of England’s finest actors (see The Taming of the Shrew, Anne of the Thousand Days, Becket) before slipping into B-roles that tarnished his image. His performance here is on par with his better films, and had the picture focused more on developing his character it may have well been one of his finest roles. One can only imagine. Mastroianni, best known for 8 ½, also delivers a heartfelt and powerful performance. Outside of Burton and Mastroianni, the film features nice turns by John Steiner (yes, he plays a Nazi but this time round he’s not as megalomaniacal), Peter Vaughn (Straw Dogs), and Anthony Steel.

Cosmatos handles the action sequences with aplomb. The attack on the German troops is stunningly visualized and there are several notable sequences where Cosmatos really cranks up the tension to get the viewer sweating. Unlike some of his later, more commercial films, Cosmatos doesn’t overstylize, letting the film unspool with an almost tangible restraint. Ennio Morricone’s score is likewise compelling.

Cosmatos went on to bigger and in many ways duller films, Massacre in Rome remains one of his finest pictures. It’s nice to see this film getting a luxurious two-disc DVD release. Noshame continues a fine run of spotless transfers of rare European films.

Lager SSadis Kastrat Kommandantur (SS Experiment Love Camp) (1976) ) Sergio Garrone

Also known as: Captive Women II: Orgies of the Damned; S.S. Experiment (USA) (reissue title); SS Experiment Camp; SS Experiment Love Camp

The graphic advertising for this movie sparked off the "video-nasty" debate in early 1982 in the United Kingdom. The BBFC later passed the film completely uncut in 2005 with the following comment, "The content of the film is in fact very mild and poorly executed. If anything, it was the title of the film and its original packaging that led to difficulties, rather than the content. The idea of the film may, of course, be offensive to some but that is not a good enough reason to cut or reject it. We would only cut or reject a film for adults if the content was illegal or harmful. "SS Experiment Camp" is neither illegal or harmful, just tasteless." It was eventually released in October 2006 with different artwork

Director: Sergio Garrone | Writers: Sergio Chiusi (story), Sergio Garrone (writer) | Cast: Mircha Carven, Paola Corazzi, Giorgio Cerioni, Giovanna Mainardi, Serafino Profumo, Attilio Dottesio, Patrizia Melega, Almina De Sanzio, Matilde Dall'Aglio, Agnes Kalpagos | Genre: Horror, Thriller, War | Format: DvdRip, Color, NTSC | Language: Italian, with English subs. Country: Italy | Company: Società Europea Films Internazionali Cinematografica (SEFI)

This is a sleazy WW2 Nazi camp movie which plays more like a black comedy. In this film the poor female POW's get raped and groped by all and sundry at the camp. In an amusing comic twist the commandant decides he wants a new pair of testicles and so removes them from one of the hunky guards. The guard doesn't seem to realise he's been castrated until he goes to bonk one of the French prisoners. This provides one of the most amusing scenes when he confronts the commandant and says "You Bastard. what have you done with my Balls?"

IMDB

Synopsis: the experiments involve a group of carefully selected German soldier studs, who are matched up with the females to have sex (some of them are lucky enough to do it underwater in a glass tank), all in the name of Germany! If that wasn’t enough, these soldiers (who converse in their barracks as if they were in a Brooklyn locker room) go to a nearby bordello to make it with more woman and drink pints and pints of beer. One of the commanders (who is bald and sports a cheek scar that resembles a dash of lipstick) deflowers a feeble blond brothel girl, and she retaliates with a rather large meat fork. She is then hanged upside-down outside the barracks, bleeding to death and made an example for any other prisoner who has any smart-ass ideas. The image of the girl’s bloody body hanging upside-down was used on some of the various video covers around the world.
Some of the torture includes more electrocutions, and a woman being placed in said glass tank and frozen to death, as the Nazis maneuver a control apparatus that looks like it was built by a 2nd grader. There’s a lesbian Fraulein Doctor (her dubbed voice makes her sound like Wilma Flintstone) who forms a kinky relationship with one of the lady prisoners, and there's a sympathetic doctor who is actually a Jewish refugee. The central, underlying plot concerns a young, nice-guy Nazi named Helmut who has a conscious, and he falls madly in love with one of the guinea pig girls. Unfortunately, he is tricked into an experiment that has his “sacks” being transplanted to those of a Colonel (Giorgio Cerioni, and tell me this guy is not a dead ringer for Ron Ely, the 60s TV “Tarzan” and star of DOC SAVAGE MAN OF BRONZE!) who apparently had his bitten off in a village raid years earlier! Ouch! After the poor Helmut tries to make love to his woman to no avail (she responds with, “Sometimes these things happen.”), he runs out screaming to the Colonel, “How ya doing with my balls?!” Some graphic violence (obviously!), the silly lesbian scenes and tons of female nudity highlight this lower-tier Nazi nonsense. The film is also noteworthy for being one of the titles banned by the UK government as a "video nasty."

Ginger e Fred (Ginger and Fred) (1986) - Federico Fellini

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091113/

Amelia and Pippo are reunited after several decades to perform their old music-hall act (imitating Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers) on a TV variety show. It's both a touchingly nostalgic journey into the past, and a viciously satirical attack on television in general and Italian TV in particular, portraying it as a mindless freakshow aimed at morons

IMDB

Synopsis: An extremely enjoyable account of the last part of Socrates' life, including his trial and execution. Roberto Rossellini gives us a glimpse into Socrates' discussions in the marketplace and the political events that lead to the trial. Jean Silvère is a perfect choice for Socrates. Except for his wife, played by Anne Caprile, the supporting cast's acting is a bit stiff. Some of the sets have painted backgrounds, but by and large the imagery gives one the feeling of being in Ancient Greece. The script is strong and captures the essence of the Platonic view of Socrates' last days

Plot: It revolves around the married lives of Vincent and Georges and the life of their single friend, Fred. The two married men, frustrated by the restrictions marriage and family have placed upon their lives, look on with envy as their unremarkable looking friend seduces a succession of beautiful women, sometimes twice in one day. Vincent loves his wife Gabrielle and their young son but this does not prevent him from taking a mistress and falling in love with her too. Georges is reaching the end of his rope with his wife, Nathalie, an abrasive feminist who insists on making every aspect of their lives a political matter, but lacking the courage to break up with her. Fred is dismissive of his friend's admiration and he himself is envious of their domestic stability and marital companionship.

'Sciuscià (Shoe Shine) (1946) - Vittorio De Sica

Direction: Vittorio De Sica

DVDrip
Runtime:93 min
Country:Italy
Language:Italian | English (English Subs in seperate files)
Colour:Black and White

Cast
Franco Interlenghi ... Pasquale Maggi
Rinaldo Smordoni ... Giuseppe Filippucci
Annielo Mele ... Raffaele
Bruno Ortenzi ... Arcangeli
Emilio Cigoli ... Staffera

Description (from IMDB):

DeSica's first true mark on the world of neo-realism is a small ruby of its time and place

Sciuscia, or Shoeshine, tells a tragedy involving two boys, Pasquale and Giuseppe, both of whom try and make money from shining shoes, and also in dealing with black market goods. They hope to buy a horse one day (a wonderful opening shot of a horse running fast gets this point across since this is at its core a film of adolescence), but complications involving Giuseppe's older brother and gang land the two boys in jail just as they have enough for the horse. The film then deals with the boys in the reformatory/prison, over-crowded with conniving, shady influences as cell-mates, as well as the people who run the prison. To tell anymore of the plot would ruin it for the viewer who would go out of his way to find this - it's near impossible to find, which is a shame since The Bicycle Thief and Umberto D. are readily available in most stores and rentals - and it's enough to say that much of the film relies more on character than story. Because the director's dealing with a group of near total unknowns, they come first.

This film, by Vittorio De Sica, was made very soon after the War had decimated the country he lived in. He didn't just want to make this movie, he had to- these characters are as real as their backdrop, a country still in the aftermath of a fascist state of affairs, and since the film deals with children there's all the more emotion to it. The only, very minor liability in the film is that the drama in the material isn't as simple and everyday as DeSica's later, more famous efforts; if it was under different direction it could've become a forgettable tearjerker. But the tragedies of these characters, Pasquale and Giuseppe, is splendid in the humanity that they feel, as it unfolds, and by the end it rings as true as any other given neo-realist effort of the late 40's and early 50's. Shoeshine is one of those rarities that may give a tear-jerker to someone who isn't expecting one, and I mean that as a compliment.
