Shakespeare travels to Iceland to visit a particularly odious family in The Sea. More dark comedy than irrevocable tragedy, director Baltasar Kormakur's film takes a twisted look at how an old man beckons his unlikable children to divide up the family fishing empire. The unforgiving, despotic Icelandic cold sets the scene for a family which is united by blood but not by love. As we meet the characters, heavy doses of rage, incest, jealousy and the battle for a profitable family business spill onto the screen. As harsh as their environment, feelings of warmth are soon extinguished by brutal gust of cold.

Mýrin (Jar City) (2006) - Baltasar Kormákur

Jar City is an absorbing mystery connecting different generations and set in the desolate landscapes of Iceland. Erlendur (Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson) is a detective investigating the death of an old man, a murder described as "messy and pointless". Orn (Atli Rafn Sigurðsson) is trying to find the cause of the serious illness of his young daughter. He works for a genetic research company and secretly tries to access government data. Eventually the stories intersect.With dogged determination, Erlendur follows any lead, including a photo of a tombstone found at the murder site. He finds an ever increasing circle of involvement. He also must deal with his own personal problem, a rebellious pregnant addicted daughter Eva (Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir). Family ties are crucial throughout.

Sigur Rós - Heima (2007) - Dean DeBlois

In the summer of 2006, Sigur Rós returned home to play a series of free, unannounced concerts for the people of Iceland. This film documents their already legendary tour with intimate reflections from the band and a handful of new acoustic performances.

Astonishing landscapes, amazing filming, music of beauty.. I was deeply touched by this movie.. Sigur Ros is a band so special and really talented. Seeing the landscapes of Iceland one can understand how the weather, the scenery, the people, affect their music and the way they write these songs. I think this movie is a must for all fans, as well as for people who don't know Sigur Ros yet. The general idea is that after a long series of tours and international activity, they wanted to get back in Iceland to perform a series of live performances for their own people. The places they chose to play live are unbelievable each one affecting their set and the way they sound. A 10 for me!
