Fed up with her boyfriend (Michael Madsen), live-wire Arkansas waitress Louise Sawyer (Susan Sarandon) persuades her friend Thelma Dickinson (Geena Davis), a naive housewife burdened with a negligent, sexist husband (Christopher McDonald), to hit the road with her for a weekend of freedom. One of their first stops is a bar where the women relax, dance, and flirt with some of the locals. But the situation turns ugly when one man (Timothy Carhart) follows Thelma to the parking lot and attempts to rape her, causing Louise to shoot and accidentally kill him. Convinced that the police will never believe their version of the incident, the women take off, now fugitives from the law. Emboldened by recent events, Thelma picks up studly young cowboy J.D. (Brad Pitt) in Oklahoma and enjoys a one-night stand that leads to even more trouble. Director Ridley Scott's infamous feminist road movie ranks among the best films of the 1990s. Along with BLADE RUNNER and ALIEN, the film is one of Scott's finest works, largely because of Callie Khourie's vivid, brilliantly idiosyncratic script, wonderful performances from the two leads, and Adrian's Biddle's crisp photography of the American Southwest.

Short Eyes (1977) Robert M. Young

Director: Robert M. Young | Cast: Luis Guzman, Tito Goya, Miguel Pinero, Joseph Carberry, Mark Margolis, Bruce Davison, Joey Fiero, Nathan George, Donald Blakely, Shawn Elliott, José Pérez | Producer: Lewis Harris | Composer: Curtis Mayfield | Genre: Drama | Writer: Miguel Pinero (play) | Runtime: 100 min | Country: USA | Language: English | Format: DvdRip, Color, NTSC

A young man who is charged with child molestation is placed in New York City's infamous "Tombs" jail system. When the other inmates in his cell block find out what he is charged with, life becomes extremely difficult for him.
Miguel Pinero, the author of the play upon which this film is based (and the actor who plays "Go-Go"), wrote the play as part of an inmate writers workshop while incarcerated at Sing Sing prison for armed robbery. He missed the premiere of the film because he had been arrested for armed robbery. All of the money he received for the film ($40,000) he gave away to homeless friends and former prison-mates. He reportedly lived on the street even after the film's acclaimed release, using a pay phone as an office.

IMDB

Synopsis: Based on the play by Miguel Pinero, Short Eyes is a brutal and powerful look at life in "the Tombs," Manhattan’s infamous detention center where tensions erupt when a white prisoner (Bruce Davison) accused of child molesting, joins their ranks.

IMDB User Comments: Maybe the best prison film ever made because its origin is people who were actually in prison, most notably its main author, Miguel Piñero. The film deals with the interrelationship between the prisoners of a cell block. That's what most of the film is, the observation of these men and their culture. The plot of the film is about a new arrival (Bruce Davison) who has been arrested as a suspect on a child molestation charge. He's never been in prison, and he's very afraid, which, of course, he should be. Short Eyes doesn't make any easy choices at all, which makes for a particularly uncomfortable movie to watch. But it also makes it one of the gutsiest and most important films ever made, and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's one of only two movies that I've ever watched twice right in a row. Well, the second time was with commentary by the director (and another man, whose participation in the film I don't exactly know), because I wanted to know exactly how this film came about, and to confirm my guess that there was some kind of inside track to prison life behind the scenes. There was far more than I could have guessed; the commentary also ranks as one of the best I've ever listened to. A masterpiece.

The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968) Tony Richardson

Dvd.rip 800 MB

PLOT: If you only know the old Errol Flynn movie, then you don't know the Charge of the Light Brigade. Shot on location, this 1968 film by Tony Richardson (of TOM JONES fame) is historically accurate down to the number of men participating in the charge (670, not 600 as in the poem). But it is also part satire, part black comedy, and part (a large part) a reflection on the Vietnam war. Stars Vanessa Redgrave, David Hemmings, Trevor Howard, John Gielgud, and Harry Andrews. It's not nearly as well known as the Flynn film, but should be.

The Ruling Class (1972) Peter Medak

The Ruling Class (1972) Peter Medak
DVD.Rip.avi
Size 800 Mb

PLOT: One of Peter O'Toole's greatest roles. He plays the heir to a title & lands who believes he's Jesus & had committed himself to escape from the world. Informed of his inheritance, he leaves the asylum to claim his title. His embarassed & greedy relatives conspire to have him declared insane for real, but he proves his "sanity" to all concerned when his delusions ultimately shift from Jesus & he becomes convinced he's Jack the Ripper. A mix of the absurd, black comedy and social satire, this film has, IMHO, one of the greatest bits of dialogue: Woman to O'Toole: "How did you know you are God ?" O'Toole: "Simple-- when I pray to Him. I find I'm talking to myself." Directed by Peter Medak, 1972.

Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take 2 1/2 (2005) William Greaves

Directed by William Greaves

1968. Central Park, New York City. A director and his crew are shooting a scene for a movie. The scene involves a bitter argument between a young married couple - Freddie and Alice. In a fit of rage, Alice accuses her husband of being unfaithful - and gay. The director shoots and re-shoots the same scene from multiple angles in various locations throughout the park. But the melodrama of a failed marriage that is taking place in front of the camera is only part of the story. The "real" action is taking place behind and "off" camera. Multiple cameras capture the reactions of the actors, the director, an increasingly disenchanted crew and various mystified onlookers.

35 years later. The aging director is back in Central Park filming the same actors playing the same roles. Alice and Freddie have gone their separate ways. Alice is now a successful, if somewhat fading, cabaret singer; Freddie a much-in-demand group therapist. It is a beautiful fall day. The New York City Marathon is about to begin and all looks well as they meet for the first time since their bitter break-up 35 years earlier. It is obvious that they both want to bury the bitter past. But the director has other ideas.

Symbiopsychotaxiplasm: Take 2 1/2 uses multiple cameras, mixes cinema verite and conventional shooting styles, as well as improvisation and scripted dialog to observe and reflect upon the creative aspects of the filmmaking process. Greaves sees the film as an attempt to explore the dividing line between reality and fiction.

Soon after his arrival, one of the missing women is found dead, bound to a tree in a desolate forest, and shortly after that intern Kate McTiernan is kidnapped from her home.
When she awakens from a drugged state, Kate discovers she is being held captive by a masked man calling himself Casanova, and she is one of several prisoners trapped in his lair. She manages to escape and is severely injured when she jumps from a cliff and into a river to escape from his clutches. After she recuperates, she joins forces with Cross to track down her sadomasochist captor, who Cross concludes is a collector, not a killer, unless his victims fail to follow his rules. This means there is time to rescue the other imprisoned women, just as long as they remain subservient.
Clues lead them to Los Angeles, where a series of gruesome kidnappings and murders have been credited to a man known as the Gentleman Caller. Cross deduces he is working in collusion with rather than imitating his East Coast counterpart, but his efforts to capture and question him are foiled and the man escapes. Upon returning to North Carolina, he eventually discovers the underground hideaway used by, as well as the true identity of, the man who calls himself Casanova.

The story is centered on two New York City police officers who arrest a member of the Japanese Yakuza and must escort him back to Japan. Once there, he escapes, and the two police officers find themselves dragged deeper and deeper into the Japanese underworld. This film illustrates the stereotypes of American and Japanese cops and gangsters.
The film was nominated for Oscars in Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing.

IMDB

Synopsis: Nick Conklin (Michael Douglas) is a skilled motorcyclist and a tough veteran New York City police officer facing possible criminal charges; Internal Affairs believes Nick might have been involved with his partner who was caught in a corruption scandal. Nick is divorced from his wife, who has custody of their two children, and he has money problems because of this.
While having a drink at a local Italian restaurant/bar, Nick and his partner Charlie Vincent (Andy Garcia) observe a group of Japanese having what appears to be a friendly lunch with some Italian gangsters. Nick is increasingly suspicious of the group until another Japanese man enters the restaurant with several armed henchmen and seizes a small package at gunpoint from the leader of the Japanese group. As the man turns to leave, one of the Japanese men at the table says something he finds insulting and he slashes the man's throat, stabs another in the chest, and then walks out. Nick and Charlie follow immediately and, after a short chase, arrest the suspect after he nearly kills Nick.
The suspect turns out to be a Yakuza gangster by the name of Sato (Yusaku Matsuda). The situation is further complicated when Nick’s superior officer, Captain Oliver (John Spencer), tells him that Sato is to be extradited to Osaka and given to the police there. Nick is angry that Sato will not be tried for murder in the United States, but agrees to escort him to Japan. Nick’s captain also has an ulterior motive for sending Nick overseas, thinking it will keep Nick from causing more trouble and exacerbating the already biased Internal Affairs investigation of him.
When they arrive in Osaka, Japanese police immediately meet them on the plane and take Sato into their custody, and leaving the plane by the rear exit. As Nick and Charlie are about to get off the plane themselves, another group of police enter from the front and identify themselves in English, indicating that the first "cops" were imposters.
Nick and Charlie are taken to the headquarters of the Osaka Prefecture of Police and questioned. They are also blamed for Sato’s escape. After much haranguing by Nick (who shows signs of xenophobia towards the Japanese) who mostly refuse to acknowledge that they can speak English, he and Charlie are allowed to “observe” the hunt for Sato. However, the senior police officer emphasises that they have no authority in Japan and are forbidden carry their guns. They are assigned to Masahiro Matsumoto, a mild-mannered and experienced officer, who will be their guide.
During the investigation Nick breaches protocol several times, offending Matsumoto. He also makes contact with an American blond nightclub hostess, Joyce (Kate Capshaw), who explain that the Japanese public, including the giggling hostesses in the club, all believe that Nick and Charlie are jokes because they allowed Sato to easily fool them and escape from custody, and represent American inefficency and stupidity. Through her, Nick discovers that Sato is fighting a gang war with a notorious crime boss, Sugai (Tomisaburo Wakayama). Sato used to be an enforcer for Sugai and now wants his own territory to rule. Sato had traveled to New York to disrupt a meeting with American Italian gangsters about a counterfeiting scheme being set up by Sugai.
Late one night, Nick and Charlie walk back to their hotel slightly drunk and unescorted, despite several previous warnings about their safety from Matsumoto. They are harassed by a young punk on a motorcycle, and it seems to be a joke until the motorcyclist steals Charlie’s raincoat (with his passport) and leads Charlie down the street and into an underground parking garage. Nick follows, shouting for Charlie to come back, but is separated from his partner by a security fence. The unarmed Nick then watches in horror as Sato and several of his bosozuka gang members briefly torture Charlie using swords from their motorcycles, and then Sato beheaded him. Distraught, Nick is comforted by Joyce at her apartment. Matsumoto arrives with Nick’s belongings, including his NYPD badge, which Nick gives to Matsumoto, and Charlie’s service pistol, which Nick keeps for himself.
Matsumoto and Nick trail one of Sato’s operatives, a young Japanese woman, who retrieves a sample counterfeit note (printed only on one side) from a bank strongbox. The woman passes the note to another of Sato’s men. Nick and Matsumoto tail the man to a steel foundry where they find that Sato is meeting with Sugai. Nick intervenes when Sato leaves the meeting and a gunfight ensues. Sato escapes again when Nick is arrested by the swarming police for waving a gun in public, and told he will be sent back to New York in disgrace. Matsumoto is put on suspension by his captain.
Nick boards the plane for New York but is able to sneak off to pursue Sato on his own. He meets with Sugai and discovers that the package that Sato had stolen in New York contains a printing plate for the American $100 bill. Sugai explains that making counterfeit U.S. currency is his revenge for the bombing of Hiroshima and the loss of dignity he and his family faced in the aftermath of World War II. Nick suggests a deal where Sugai can use Nick as an insignificant American who can attack and kill Sato, leaving Sugai's reputation and hands clean.
Sugai drops Nick at the outskirts of a remote farm where a meeting of the oyabun, the other crime bosses of the region, is to take place. Nick is supplied with a shotgun. Sato arrives a short time later, as does Matsumoto, and Matsumoto and Nick deduce that Sato’s men are planning a massacre once the meeting is over. At the meeting table, Sato surrenders his single plate and requests recognition and his own territory. However, Sugai demands that Sato first pay tribute for his offenses in the traditional Yakusa way: he is ordered to cut off one of his fingers. As he does this and takes a subordinate position next to him, he stabs Sugai in the hand and escapes with both the plates, prompting a gunfight between Sugai’s and Sato’s men. Sato escapes the fight on a dirt bike with Nick close behind. Nick is able to spill Sato off his bike and the two fight briefly, until Nick gains the advantage. The scene ends with Nick having to decide whether or not to kill Sato for Charlie and for all the humiliation he has suffered.
The film ends with Matsumoto and Nick walking a handcuffed Sato into police HQ to the amazement of everyone, and receiving commendations. Nick thanks Matsumoto for his assistance and his friendship, and gives him a gift box as he boards the plane, a box containing a dress shirt. Underneath the shirt, Masumoto finds the two printing plates that everyone has been looking for.

Chris and Kelly survive, but the other two do not. Chris' injuries include brain damage that affects his short-term memory. To compensate for his inability to remember, he keeps notes in a small notebook. He lives with a blind friend named Lewis (Jeff Daniels) who also aids him.
Resulting from his mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a small-town bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader, Gary (Matthew Goode), befriends him and uses a young woman, Luvlee (Isla Fisher), to seduce him. Confused, but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which immediately goes awry.
A sheriff's deputy (Sergio Di Zio) stumbles into the robbery while delivering doughnuts to Chris. Guns are fired and the deputy and three gang members are killed. Gary is wounded and one other bank robber, Bone (Greg Dunham), survives. Chris escapes in the car which contains the money they stole; he buries it near where his accident occurred. As this is happening, the robbers kidnap Lewis to get the money back. The robbers and Chris meet to exchange the money for Lewis, but they force him to take them to the site of the buried cash.
While Chris digs in the snow to retrieve the money, Gary's health is rapidly deteriorating. Chris gives one of two bags to Bone, who then prepares to execute Lewis. Chris shoots Bone with a shotgun he'd hidden in one money bag. At the same time, Gary collapses and dies from loss of blood. Chris returns the money and turns himself in. An investigation by the FBI concludes that Chris could not have pulled off the robbery, by himself, due to his mental state — confirmed by video surveillance of the robbery.

K-Pax (2001) Iain Softley

Director: Iain Softley | Producers: Robert F. Colesberry, Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin | Writers: Gene Brewer, Charles Leavitt | Cast: Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Mary McCormack, Alfre Woodard | Music: Edward Shearmur | Cinematography: John Mathieson | Editor: Craig McKay | Distributed by: Universal Pictures (USA) | Runtime: 120 min | Format: DvdRip, Color, NTSC | Year: 2001 | Language: English | Country: USA

K-PAX is a 2001 science-fiction drama film about a mental patient who claims he is an alien. During his treatment, the patient/alien, "prot" ("rhymes with 'goat' and is not capitalized"), demonstrates an outlook on life that ultimately proves inspirational for his fellow patients and especially for his psychiatrist...

IMDB

Synopsis: The story opens with a man who calls himself prot (Kevin Spacey), who mysteriously appears in New York City's Grand Central Terminal. When he claims he is an alien from a planet called 'K-PAX' via 'light rays', prot is handed over to a New York hospital psychiatric ward. A Manhattan psychiatrist, Mark Powell (played by Jeff Bridges), is given the task of treating and "curing" prot of his supposed delusions. Right from the first psychiatric session, Dr. Powell begins to discover prot's uncanny abilities and immense knowledge. As the story develops, Dr. Powell becomes quite attached to prot, and starts to believe his seemingly impossible claims. Prot even baffles some of the foremost astrophysicists with his knowledge of science and astronomy.
Once prot displays violent behavior at Dr. Powell's house, Dr. Powell decides to regress him to find out more about prot's past. Because prot has promised he will leave Earth on July 27th, it's a race against time for Dr. Powell to find out the real identity behind the enigmatic prot. Prot also promises that he will take one of the ward's patients with him, and encourages an essay competition among them to determine his choice. Unfortunately, Dr. Powell is only able to find out about the human whose body prot has been occupying who, according to prot, was his childhood friend who witnessed the murder of his own family.
After prot, while under hypnotic regression, reveals the emotionally painful incident which occurred at his home after coming home after working as a "cattle whacker" , Powell conducts extensive research which points to a small town in New Mexico. His investigation leads him to the criminal case of Robert Porter, who suffered the exact circumstances prot revealed in a remarkably similar location that prot had described in detail.
Upon returning to the hospital, Powell confronts prot with a photograph of himself labeled 'Robert Porter,' which prot dismisses. However, he asks Powell to "take care of him" [Robert].
On the day of July 27th, Powell races to prot's room and after initially believing he has vanished, he finds him under the bed. At the same moment, the patients of the mental facility realize that Bess, arguably the quietest and least selfish of any of them, is missing, presumably never to be seen again.
Sometime later, Powell is seen caring for Porter who is now in a catatonic state. The film leaves the viewer undecided as to whether prot was a human all along and suffered a mental breakdown due to his tragic past, or if prot was a real extraterrestrial from K-PAX who took over Porter's human host to save his life.
