Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) - David Lynch

Essentially a prequel to David Lynch and Mark Frost's earlier TV series "Twin Peaks". The first half-hour or so concerns the investigation by FBI Agent Chet Desmond (Chris Isaak) and his partner Sam Stanley (Kiefer Sutherland) into the murder of night-shift waitress Teresa Banks in the small Washington state town of Deer Meadow. When Desmond finds a mysterious clue to the murder, he inexplicably disappears. The film then cuts to one year later in the nearby town of Twin Peaks and follows the events during the last week in the life of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) a troubled teenage girl with two boyfriends; the hot-tempered rebel Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook) and quiet biker James Hurley (James Marshall), her drug addiction, and her relationship with her difficult (and possible schizophrenic) father Leland (Ray Wise), a story in which her violent murder was later to motivate much of the TV series. Contains a considerable amount of sex, drugs, violence, very loud music and inexplicable imagery.

Eraserhead (1977) - David Lynch

Is it a nightmare or an actual view of a post-apocalyptic world? Set in an industrial town in which giant machines are constantly working, spewing smoke, and making noise that is inescapable, Henry Spencer lives in a building that, like all the others, appears to be abandoned. The lights flicker on and off, he has bowls of water in his dresser drawers, and for his only diversion he watches and listens to the Lady in the Radiator sing about finding happiness in heaven. Henry has a girlfriend, Mary X, who has frequent spastic fits. Mary gives birth to Henry's child, a frightening looking mutant, which leads to the injection of all sorts of sexual imagery into the depressive and chaotic mix. Fred Madison, a saxophonist, is accused under mysterious circumstances of murdering his wife Renee. On death row, he inexplicably morphs into a young man named Pete Dayton, leading a completely different life. When Pete is released, his and Fred's paths begin to cross in a surreal, suspenseful web of intrigue, orchestrated by a shady gangster boss named Dick Laurent.

When Fred Madison finds a video tape on his doorstep that shows the interior of his house, he's convinced that someone has broken in and calls the police. Things get really complicated when he finds another videotape showing him killing his wife, and the police arrest him because his wife really was murdered! Then he disappears from the prison and we start watching the life of a young man who works in a garage...

In "Tricks" set in 1969 Moe Boca brings prositute Darlene to his room where their tryst is intrupted by the arrival of Moe's friend Louis where mind games ensue. In "Getting Rid of Robby" set in 1993, Sasha plots to kill her lover Robert in the most unsusual of ways within the room. In "Blackout" set in 1936, Danny brings to the room some Chinese take-out food for his wife Diane where a sudden city-wide blackout makes them reminise of their only child who drowned years before.

Duke Leto's son Paul and Paul's mother Lady Jessica flee deep into the desert and are befriend by the Fremen, natives of Arrakis. Due to the influence of the 'Melange' Paul learns he has special powers and he can see into the future. Paul unites the Freman and forms a army of warriors and leads them into battle against Baron Harkonnen and the corrupt Emperor Padishah Shaddam IV who is in league with the Harkonnen's and vows to avenge his father and sets out to liberate Arrakis and it's people from the Emperor's rule and fulfill his destiny. Inland Empire (2007) - David Lynch

A blonde actress is preparing for her biggest role yet, but when she finds herself falling for her co-star, she realizes that her life is beginning to mimic the fictional film that they're shooting. Adding to her confusion is the revelation that the current film is a remake of a doomed Polish production, 47, which was never finished due to an unspeakable tragedy.

A wealthy debutante finds herself, inadvertently and without her accord, by way of an ancient Eastern European witch's magic curse, in a movie about a girl in the movies ... and yet trying to get out -- all while living two lives, per rules of David Lynchian reality paradigms: one as a nobody in suburban America, possibly a part-time prostitute, just trying to get by; and one as a nobody in Eastern Europe, again possibly a prostitute (and all the while watching some strange sit-com / soap-opera / talk-show about rabbits, or humanoid-rabbits, with an awful, chilling laugh track), just trying to get by -- until she later discovers that we are all in the movies, and that Hollywood is indeed the end of the Yellow Brick Rode, and that the laugh track that we hear is all in our minds; and that at the same time there is the Sinister and Evil aspect behind the whole drama being the knowledge now gained: that everyone is a prostitute in some weird way, just trying to get by.
