Description: The story takes place in early twentieth century Dublin during the annual Epiphany party held by Kate and Julia Morgan, two elderly sisters. The long-awaited social event will be attended by their favourite nephew Gabriel Conroy and his wife Gretta. During dinner the guests’ reminiscences will put Gretta in a melancholy mood and she will share with her husband her memories of her first long-lost love when she was a girl in rural Galway. Her recounting of this tragic love to Gabriel makes him realize the difference between mere existence and living.
Adapted from a short story by James Joyce (from the Dubliners) this is John Huston’s last film. The film was released posthumously.
